On Friday night, August 26th, the Bulldogs arrived on the field at Liberty High School in Brentwood, California, prepared and ecstatic for their first game this season. In the first quarter, Daniel Wright(#23) further sparked the excitement of the Bulldogs with the first touchdown of their own in the game. Kicker Brandon Talton(#90) also brought on this excitement with a 29 yard field goal. The first quarter ended 10-9 Liberty. Daniel Wright, with another touchdown, brought the score to 17-10 Bulldogs with the help of a two point conversion in the second.
Jake Schrader(#84) commented, “We’re doing pretty good… Offense doing well. Just got to keep doing what we’re doing.” The Bulldogs kept the hope stronger than ever in the third. Timothy Jackson(#11) and Jacob Abramowicz(#42) both put their own touchdowns on the board, leaving the third with a score of 31-17.
When asked about his own performance on the field so far, Jake Levengood(#70) stated, “I think I’m playing a little timid on defense, but on offense I think I’m kicking the dude’s butt, you know… I don’t know… We need to step up our pace on offense though.” Although the Lions made some successful attempts, Daniel Wright was able to end the game with another touchdown for the ‘dogs. Wright commented, “We came out here to perform, do our thing, and my team has been doing good and they’ve been making me look good as a player.... We’ve got a lot of stuff to fix next game.”
The Bulldogs finished the game against the Lions with a score of 37-26. After the game Coach Paps stated, “They did a nice job. There’s a lot more things you have to do to prepare. So the first time we’ve gone through this, I thought they did a pretty nice job.”
The JV Bulldogs also played a strong game and tied 14-14 with two touchdowns from Ethan Houdyshell(#5).
