For the month of October, The Bark would like to recognize Varsity football player, Gunner Bagos, as Athlete of the Month. Gunner Bagos is a Senior here at Vaca High and a notable player for the Varsity football team.
With touchdowns against Yuba City, Pittsburg, and Armijo, Gunner has a total of 3 touchdowns so far this season. Gunner has earned 483 rushing yards, 4 solo tackles, and 5 total tackles. When asked what he felt it meant to be a high school athlete, Gunner responded: “To be a high school athlete means commitment, focus, and fun. A high school athlete has to be able to manage their time well… because most people do not get to continue the sport after high school which means I take every moment as if it was my last and I try to take advantage of every opportunity that arises.”
He also mentioned: “I went from not starting in offense last year to starting halfback this year, I knew I wanted to step it up this year and that’s what I did. I am also a wrestler. Football gives me strength which helps me with wrestling and wrestling keeps me in shape for football and also keeps my mental ability at a higher state. Wrestling is the hardest sport I have ever done so when I go back to football I am already conditioned and this means I can focus better on my technique.”
Gunner has proven to be an exceptionally valuable player for the Bulldogs.
