Stay Out of the Planter Boxes

Beginning during spring break and thanks to Measure A, a measure voted by Vacaville citizens to provide more funding for VUSD schools, Vacaville HIgh school’s parking lot received a much needed face-lift. The parking situation doubled and the edges were garnished with trees and flowers. However these new planter boxes have created a few issues for the students.
Many students here at Vaca High know the saying “Stay out of the planter boxes!” thanks to the school staff putting up signs and enforcing this rule in hopes of keeping the school fresh and tidy. Vaca High student, Carly Martin, said that “There is still not enough parking spaces, and people are going to end up walking through the planter boxes anyway.” Obviously she is not one of the pleased students, who feel that they can come to school later now that there is more parking.
A well known staff member here at Vaca High, Darci Merrick, noted that she “likes all of the new trees and the new shrubs, especially the fact that they are very drought tolerant.” She also noted that she loves the fact that there is a big orange ‘V’ in front of the stadium. Although Darci loves the pretty trees and plants she is not completely satisfied with the parking lot, as “There are not enough entrances and exits.” Even though some do not appreciate our parking lot and the limited entrances and exits, we are still working on getting some parking spots in the back of the school near the new two story building that is coming. Those new spots could potentially be either staff parking or student parking. This shows that we are striving for more and more parking spots for those early risers that get to the school by 6:30 in the morning hoping to find that perfect parking spot.
Another student, Victoria Lomeli, commented that she “Likes the parking lot because there is enough space for me to park crooked and no one can hit my car.” Kennedy Vaughan stated that she  “Thinks the plants add a nice color to the school.”
Along with the pretty plants and parking lot we are overjoyed to hear about the tennis courts hopefully being finished by October 1st. We are also happy that a new and improved softball field will be ready for the girls to start their games in mid- to late November.
