Phones have changed a lot since they were first invented. Alexander Graham Bell invented the first telephone on March 10th, 1876. Bell made his first call to his assistant. That call was the first call ever made in history. Bell’s reasoning for his invention was to invent a machine that would transmit sound by electricity. This became known as the telephone. The telephone had many different shapes. One example was a box shape telephone that was connected to a mouthpiece that you spoke into. Telephones started to evolve later on. A man named Martin Cooper decided to take telephones to a whole new level. He decided to create a phone that was portable and able to take with you, what’s known now as a cell phone. On April 3rd, 1973, Martin made his new invention public by making a call with the first cell phone that was ever invented.
The first cell phone was also known as “the brick”, it weighed two pounds, needed to be recharged after every 30 minute call, and was sold for $3,995. 16 years later on April 25, 1989 the Motorola MicroTac 9800X was released.. This cell phone was invented as a more portable way to call. In 1992 the Nokia 1011 was released. This cell phone was the first mass-produced GSM phone and featured a monochrome LCD and an extendable antenna. Years after many similar phones were created. The first flip phone was released on January 3rd, 1996. It was called The Motorola StarTAC, a clamshell mobile phone manufactured by Motorola. This cell phone gained its popularity when it came out in January with 60 million sold wideworld. After the boom of the internet cell phone companies were eager to find a way to merge the two, internet and cell phones.
In 2003, the BlackBerry Quark 6210 was launched and became the first integrated phone/PDA. This allowed people to have internet access on the go. In 2007, Apple launched the very first iPhone. This phone was very popular among consumers because it was the first phone that eliminated the traditionally keyboard, and introduced the very first touch screen. It sold for $599 and had 8GB of storage. The Iphone is the most popular smartphone among consumers to this day. The iPhone 7 was released on September 16, 2016. The iPhone 7 has the best performance in battery life along with water resistance. Phones have changed drastically since they were first invented and are still rapidly evolving in each year to come.
