The drought in California has been a hot topic since 2011, when a drought state of emergency was declared, which influenced everyone to start viewing our water as something we should value and not take for granted. Californians were told to not use more water than needed, some listened to this and inevitably others continued to waste water. With all the storms this winter, is the California drought finally over? The drought was ongoing for years but as of January 10th 2017, fifty six percent of the state has moved out of being in a severe drought. California has worked its way out of this drought, many hope it will stay that way. Areas were flooded due to the many storms that took place from December to January, which really helped pull California farther from this drought. California's major reservoirs had nearly 350 billion gallons of water poured in them which had not been seen for a considerable period of time.
Although the drought is over in a percentage of the state there are still precautions that need to be taken to preserve the water California has obtained from recent storms. California is not completely out of this drought therefore people need to continue limiting their water usage. The drought was a big enough struggle to get out of, it is hoped that people will help to keep California out of it. It is a huge accomplishment moving from this drought when just a few years ago lands were dry and deprived of water that they desperately needed. Lands are now being supplied with water from people who live to help this drought, with these people helping California the drought will surely improve.
