As of Sunday, January 15, there are now animals for the 142nd Dixon May Fair on the Vaca High FFA Farm. This year we had a very large list of animals, much more than usual. On the farm, there will be five goats, with two more goats that are not on the farm. There are also 16 pigs on the farm, with another 16 off- a total of 32 pigs. There are 7 turkeys on the farm, with 9 off the farm. There are also 17 rabbits, 10 of which are on campus. On top of that there will be 20 lambs on the farm, and 10 off. In total there are 102 animals going to fair! Not all of the animals are on the farm yet, but all will be here soon. Our goal in raising animals is to learn responsibility, learn valuable life skills, and sportsmanship. On top of that, the sale of the animals raises money that most use for college. In 2016, FFA members earn more than $4 billion annually through their hands-on work experience. That is spread out between 649,355 FFA members, aged 12-21, in 7,859 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. There are more than 11,00 FFA advisers. This year, Dixon May Fair is from May 11th to May 14th.
