On August 26, 2016 the alternative band Glass Animals released their new album “How To Be a Human Being”. Their style has definitely changed since their first album. There is one song on the album that is on the radio and many people may already be familiar with it, it’s called “Life itself”. Other than that song the others aren’t as known. In an interview lead singer Dave Bayley says life itself is about “a guy who was born a bit strange, and struggles to become part of society. Because of that, he spends more time alone in his own head, getting stranger, and it becomes an awful cycle of doom.” Most of the album still has the signature psychedelic sound, but a few songs such as “Poplar St.” feature a classic rock feel.
The cover art is a group portrait of 11 different people suggesting there is some connection between each of them. The characters are linked together by music videos & new characters are introduced in each one. The album is made up of stories that people told lead singer Dave Bayley while on tour. During Bayley’s Billboard interview he says, “I was recording all of these people telling me stories. On tour you meet so many people. As soon as you walk off the tour bus, you meet fans. You meet some radio people, taxi drivers, people at parties – you meet all these people and hear all their stories. I was a stranger, so I think people interacted differently than they would interact with their closest friends. But I also got the impression that people wouldn’t have told these stories to their closest friends. People tell you some incredible things – some totally deep, dark secrets – with a sort of cheekiness to it. They’re laughing as they’re telling you these dark, or sad, or really gross things. And even if they’re telling you a happy story, you can sense the emotion underneath that.” Overall the album is very catchy with its unique, groovy beats and original song names.
