Bastille, a British indie pop/alternative rock band, released their second album Wild World on September 9th. As a fan of Bastille’s first album Bad Blood,  I was beyond excited to hear they were releasing a new one. This album perfectly explains how many of us feel about the world; the fears and concerns of our wild world, that just seems to become more chaotic by the minute. The striking themes in the songs are full of anger and hurt in a world that is, sometimes, almost too much to handle.
The album’s title was taken from the chorus of the track “Warmth”. The song really ties the whole album together, and incorporates the overall theme of the album. “Warmth” explains how hard it gets dealing with everything that surrounds us in the world. During an interview with NME, Dan Smith (lead singer) explained that they never really cared about existing within a genre, “If we wanna have a ridiculous, over-the-top blaring horn sample on one song and then go into minimal electronica on the next, that’s completely fine.” Musically, the band sounds bolder and more ambitious on their new album. Even though they were a little out of the box with this album, they still continued their original music style. New and longtime fans will be happy with the band’s latest album.
I love that Bastille is still offering exciting and engaging music. You know an album is good when it actually makes you think. When some melodies make you want to dance and others make you want to sleep. An album like this deserves more attention then it gets. Bastille never fails to amaze me! There is one song on the album that is explicit, meaning the song contains language that is too strong for children. The song that is marked explicit is “Way Beyond”.
