As far back as he can remember, Josh Wilken’s hand held a pencil, a pen, or anything he could find to bring the images he saw to life on a simple, blank sheet of paper. A naturally talented artist, his early cartoons struck dramatic and humorous poses as he saw fit. As his delight with his creations grew, so did his abilities, leading to his current skill at recreating real life in his work. Josh, however, is far from finished stretching and honing his skill. As he himself said, “Art is in an area of expanding proportions.” With this philosophy in his heart, Josh looks beyond high school to his future. The University of California at Berkeley, awaits the soon-to-be Vaca High graduate. From there, Josh dreams to work at the production studios of such giants as Pixar Animation or even its former parent company, Disney. Much like his great uncle, George Guinness- designer of the Space Mountain ride at Disneyland, Josh plans to continue exploring the artistic territories that his family pioneered.

“If you stay true to yourself, you will find the success you seek.” These wise words guide Josh as he finds his place in the world of practicing artists. Josh prefers to take abstract ideas and draw the images these ideas inspire in his mind’s eye. His imagination is the womb where these concepts, once conceived, are birthed onto his sketchpad. Josh’s children are welcome additions to the community of Vacaville High School.
